LAHORE: The All Pakistan Lawyers’ Convention on Saturday declared that the judges that had taken oath under the provisional constitutional order (PCO) were in contempt of court.
A resolution was passed in the convention stating that the lawyers would not recognise them as judges.
The convention denounced the continued detention of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Sardar Raza Khan, Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday, Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, Justice Shakir Ullah Jan and Justice Falak Sher.
The joint resolution issued after the convention said that the lawyers also condemned the violation of human rights, civil liberties and fundamental rights since November 3, 2007.
“The convention in particular condemns the detention of Balach Iftikhar, the eight-year-old son of Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who has been in detention since November 3, 2007,” said the resolution.
The resolution praised the media for establishing its commitment to the freedom of expression and the supremacy of the constitution.
The resolution rejected efforts to amend the PEMRA Ordinance and restrictions on certain media personnel.
It added: “The convention condemns the purported amendments in the Army Act and the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act.” Furthermore, the lawyers alleged that conspiracies were being hatched to sabotage the Murree Declaration of March 9.
