LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to keep Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Aitzaz Ahsan under house arrest until a new government is formed, Home Secretary Khusro Pervez Khan told a private TV channel on Thursday. He said Ahsan had violated the official order for his domiciliary arrest by coming out of his house on Wednesday night. Khan said that to make sure the order was implemented strictly, barbed wires had been put up and a strong police contingent deployed outside Ahsan’s house. He said the 30-day order to keep Ahsan under house arrest would expire on March 2, but the SCBA president would remain in detention. According to official sources, the decision to extend Ahsan’s detention was taken after he had called a rally to Islamabad for the reinstatement of the judges who had refused to take oath under the Provisional Constitution Order.
