Civil officers call on CJP.

ISLAMABAD: A 53-member delegation of senior civil officers from various groups with seven faculty/staff members of the National Management College, the National School of Public Policy, Lahore, on Wednesday called on Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

The chief justice, while addressing the delegation, gave a brief account of the various jurisdictions of the Supreme Court, functioning of the court, the role assigned to the superior judiciary in interpreting the Constitution and law.

The chief justice said that the Supreme Court was initially created under the 1956 Constitution and hitherto, it was called the Federal Court. He said that the Supreme Court was the highest judicial body under the Constitutions of 1956, 1962 and then of course interim constitution of 1972 and Constitution of 1973. Later, Shafiq Hussain Bukhari, chief instructor of the college, presented a shield to chief justice.
