It is in national interest to bring dons influencing Anti-narcotics force (ANF) into limelight, Supreme Court judge, Justice Jawad S. Khwaja remarked while hearing heroin smuggling case. A 3-member bench of Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary heard the case on the appeal of ANF about smuggling of 10 kilogram of heroin. In the appeal, the acquittal of one of the accomplice in the crime, namely Faheem Babar of Lahore, has been challenged. Commander ANF said there were loopholes in the trial and the case was mishandled. At this, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary said whenever there is not enough proof, the court is asked to handle the proceedings. If there was any evidence than why was it not presented in the trial, CJ questioned. He said it is a matter of concern that ANF does not what has to be done due to which the cases are often mishandled. Justice Jawad S. Khwaja gave remarks it seems and is yet to be seen if ANF is also involved in the corruption. No one can be sentenced to life without evidence, he added. Subsequently, the Supreme Court ordered to present the witnesses/evidences in the next hearing and issued notice to the acquitted accused. The court then adjourned the proceedings till July 16.
Big fish influencing ANF should be bought forward: SC.
