LAHORE: Lawyers, political parties and members of the civil society took out a joint rally in the provincial capital on Thursday to press for the restoration of Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other deposed judges.
The demonstration, led by President Lahore Bar High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) Manzoor Qadir started from the Aiwan-e-Adl. Activists of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, headed by their chief Imran Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami and Khaksar Tehrik also participated in the rally. The participants of the rally reached the GPO Chowk, chanting slogans in favour of an independent judiciary. Lawyers of the LHCBA led by their president Anwar Kamal, vice president Mian Muhammad Aslam and secretary Rana Asadullah joined them there.
The protesters, carrying placards and portraits of the deposed judges, marched towards the Punjab Assembly where they concluded the demonstration and chanted slogans in favour of the deposed judges. Anwar Kamal, Manzoor Qadir, Hamid Khan Member PBC and other lawyer-leaders addressed the rally participants in front of the Punjab Assembly. They criticised the governmentís policies regarding restoration of the deposed judges. They said the lawyers and the whole nation rejected the governmentís policy to restore the deposed judges except Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
They said the lawyers, through their struggle, forced Musharraf to quit. They said the judges would be restored soon as the lawyersí movement will be re-charged with the election of Ali Ahmad Kurd as president of the SC Bar. The lawyers and political leaders vowed to continue their unified struggle till the restoration of the judges.
